Industry Update (July 2020)

As of May 1 2020, building works approved for construction will need to comply to this updated code. For insulation, in particular, it means all insulation manufacturers need to comply with the AS/NZS 4859.1:2018 standard for Thermal Conductivity, among other requirements. The effect is that insulation for thermal use will need packaging to display a lot more information including the products compliance to all aspects of the new standards.

Most manufacturers are still awaiting new, compliant test results of their products.  Some have started to filter through. Virtually all current construction, for the time being was approved before May 2020, so there is still some breathing space for these manufacturers to get their compliance in order. The 2016 BCA is still applicable for all construction approved before April 30, 2020.
